Mr T. E. Craine, of Kiwitea, lias returned from a month’s holiday in New South Wales and Queensland. He was accompanied by Mrs Craine. Mr Rex Aitken, of the laboratory staff of the New Plymouth Public Hospital, has been appointed to the position of laboratory assistant at the Palmerston North Public Hospital.
Mr F. Hall-Jones, Invercargill, district governor of Rotary in New Zealand, is due back in New Zealand a little later in the month. Mr HallJones has been attending, the wor|d conference, of Rotary at Nice. Mr E. E. Mabin, of Tokomaru, who recently returned from an extended tour to Java and Singapore, was given a cordial welcome back to the general committee of the A. and P. Association by the president (Mr J. A. Russell) at its meeting yesterday. Sir Walter Huggard, who was Chief Justice of the Straits Settlements from 1933 to 1936, when he retired, has been selected for the combined post of President of the special Courts in Swaziland and Bechuanaland Protectorate and Judicial Commissions in Basutoland and legal adviser to the High Commissioner lor Basutoland, Bcchuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland, states a British Official Wireless message. Lord Elibank, who presided at the fourteenth congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire at Wellington last year, has retired from the position of president with the completion of his tiireeyear period. His successor is the Earl of Dudley, president of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Steel and Iron Federation, and director and owner of a large iron and steel works.
A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr W. V. Kingsbeer. a former member oi the Hokowhitu School Committee, and an ardent worker on the school’s behalf, was passed at a meeting of the committee held last evening. At a meeting of the College Street ■ School Committee, also held last evening, the chairman (Colonel J. H. Whyte) referred to the death of Mr Kingsbeer. who was a.n old boy of the school and had assisted it in many ways. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence.
