Mr Geo. Dewe, who came from Edmonton, Canada, in March last, has returned for a rest with one of his nieces in Feilding after a busy time in Southland, Otago, and Canterbury, where ho has been addressing many of the largo schools and high schools on a subject which he is very interested in—the champion Edmonton commercial graduates’ basketball team. Mr Dewe also addressed public gatherings on the beauties of Canada illustrated by lantern slides. While in the south Mr Dewe suffered ill-health and underwent two operations. His friends will bo pleased to learn that his health has now improved. The positions of candidates in the Feilding # queen carnival are as follow:—Municipal Band Queen (Miss 0. Sporle), 3568 votes; Footballers’ Queen (Miss W. Dewe), 3200; Pipe Band Queen (Miss J. Duncan), 2452. Mr C. It. H. Taylor, librarian of the Turnbull Library, who gave an address at the Civic Club yesterday, was also the speaker at last evening’s meeting of the W.E.A. The very fine collection of valuable books gathered by Mr T. L. Seddon was mentioned by Mr Taylor at the Civic Club yesterday. He said that the literature in Mr Seddon’s possession was of a particularly high standard. Mr T. L. Mills intimated that, he had asked Mr Seddon to give a talk at. a future luncheon of the club.
