NAZI ORGANISATIONS
OPERATIONS IN ENGLAND. SCOTLAND YARD BUSY. "4IOBE EXPULSIONS LIKELY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, Aug. 9. The News-Chronicle says that Scotland Yard, acting cinder instructions from the Home Office, will concentrate on clearing up the activities of the Nazi organisations which are known to be operating secretly in English cities. A record number of Germans has been admitted to England in the past two years, and some of them have been pushing Nazi propaganda. Scotland Yard has employed a “Nazi squad” since 1935 and has secured ample evidence to warrant Home Office action. Further expulsions may be made soon. GERMANY “PAINED.” MAY TAKE ACTION ALSO. BERLIN, Aug. 9. A semi-official statement says : “The German Government does not conceal the fact that it is greatly pained by the decision resulting in the German correspondents’ expulsion. “Since Britain considers the continued residence of the correspondents undesirable, Germany naturally will take corresponding action.” The newspapers talk of “the English provocation” and say it can only injure Anglo-German relations.
PROTEST LODGED. EXPULSION OF JOURNALISTS. ■Received August 10, 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 9. The German Charge d’Affaires has conveyed the German protest against the expulsion of journalists to Viscount Halifax. It is understood that it is couched in restrained terms.
