THE NEW SESSION.
PREPARATION OF BUDGET. WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. An announcement that the period for which Parliament was prorogued was to be extended by three weeks to September 2 was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage. The present prorogation order will expire on Thursday. Financial provision up to the end of September was made by the Legislature before the adjournment was taken last year. Mr Savage said last evening that he hoped to be able to give legislators three weeks’ notice of the session. The preparation of the Budget and Estimates was well advanced. It was intended to introduce these documents as soon as possible after the commencement of the session. What might be termed the historical section of the Budget was now practically completed. The section dealing with the Government’s financial and taxation proposals would have to lie dealt with after the return of the Minister of Finance, Mr XV. Nash.
