NINETY-SEX TO-DAY.

MRS M. COULTER’S BIRTHDAY. “I’m 96 years old to-day.” There are not many people w r ho live to say that, hut that is what Mrs M. Coulter, who resides with her daughter, Mrs AA T . Fabling, of Heretaunga Street, was able to tell n “Standard” reporter this morning. Mrs Coulter is in wonderful health; slie reads and knits very well, and still has a bright smile for everyone. She has lived in Palmerston North for 56 years, and after her husband died about 30 years ago she lived alone in Main Street, being possessed of an independent spirit. It was only a year ago that she went to stay with her daughter. She has also resided in Christchurch and AVellington; she came from England when 20 years of age. On Sunday a celebration will be held in Mrs Coulter’s honour, when the four of her eight children who are living— Mrs H. Henderson (AVanganui), Mrs AV. Fabling (Palmerston North), Mr D. Coulter (Palmerston North), and Mr AV. Coulter (AVoodville) —will be present. There will be a handsome cake (made by Mrs Henderson) adorned with 96 candles—quite a number to blow out with one breatli! Mrs Coulter has 20 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Mrs Coulter advocates a quiet, simple life for those who wish to live long, and states that she has always worked hard.
