WOMEN'S WORLD

Mr and Mrs F. J. Allen, of Christ church, are spending a fortnight’s holiday in Palmerston North. Mrs L. Coupe, of Stratford, has returned home after visiting relatives in Palmerston North. Miss Irene and Miss E. V. Salisbury visited Wellington for the Mollay— Mullins wedding.

Mrs H. If. Arkwright, of “Overtoil,” Martoii, is visiting Christchurch, and is staying with Mis H. F. Nicol lor Paco Week. Mrs T. P. Moore, of Terrace End, has staying with her Mr and Mrs C. Kinross-White, of Hawke’s Bay.

Mrs H. Wingate, of Longbum, daughter of the late Mr John Balsillie, was to-day elected a life member of the Manawatu A. and P. Association. It was explained that Mr Balsillie had been a past president of the association and a groat worker for it; he had also bequeathed the association the sum of £SOO. Miss D. J. Walworth, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Walworth, of Boundary Road, left Palmerston North for Auckland last night, and sailed by the Aorangi for the United States to-day, to continue her medical studies at AVhite’s Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles. Miss Walworth arrived in New Zealand last October on holiday.

Mr and Mrs A. A. Langley, of Col lege Street, have staying with them Miss Elizabeth Loe, tutor to the British Drama League (New Zealand branch), who is adjudicating at the Manawatu area drama festival. The results of the 1937 competition for pioneer tales, which is held by the Dominion Federation of Women’s Jnstitutes every year, havo been announced, as follow, by the judge, Mr H. Goithrie-Sriiith (Tutira) : Little River, North Canterbury, 95 marks out of 100,' first: Taieri Institute, South Otago, and South Southland Institute, 90 marks, equal, second; MatamauTataramoa W. 1., Southern Hawke’s Bay, 80 marks, third; Picton, Nelson, and Waipukurau, Southern Hawke’s Bay, 70 marks, equal fourth.
