PAPER MONEY LINE.
MATINGS WITH INFLATION. Now in his third season at the stud, Inflation, carrying on the Paper Money lino, is being well patronised by breeders, and bis first batch of yearlings will be racing next year. He lias been fully booked each year, and last season bad 37 consorts. This year, so far, 17 matings have been arranged, but Inflation, who is still owned by Mr Edmunds, will have a very full season at the stud, as many other bookings are to bo made. Marcs to visit him early this season are Hnllowvonia (Hallowmas —Merry vonia), Trimden (Tea Tray—Agnestur), Ingenuity (High Art —Intelligence), St. Clara (Gainscourt —Cleasanta), Kilcannou (Diogenes— Canyon), Divoia (Diacqucnod —Avola), Miss Hushabyo (Manchineel —Hushnbyc), Los Qucx (Lord Quex —Los Vegas), Princess La Jean (Lapidary —Jean Laddo), Titian Lady (Lackhain —Absurdity), Goldflare (Lackhain —Sunfire), Mint Sauce (Catmint —Mona • Bruce), Phcon (Arrowsmith— Ilinearoha), Discoursive (Thomcnd —Discourse), /Ilaligan (Hallowmas — Bonny Helen), Lady Court (Romeo —Lady Kerman), Careful (Nigger Minstrel—Lookout).
Preparing for Spring. The stablcmates Stretto and Privy Seal have done a lot of strong pace work during tho last month or two at Ellerslie, and are steadily hardening in condition. This pair should come on quickly with a few fast gallops, and. R. S. Bagby will have them well forward by the time the spring meetings arrive. Gold And Gay.
Gold and Gay, a member of J. II Wallace’s stable at To Arolia, lias been sent back to her owner on account of showing signs of lameness, which is considered to be consequent upon an injury received two seasons ago. Tho Gay Shield mare will bo allotted a lengthy spell. Encouraging Form. Latest reports from To Rapa state that Gadger is working well and will be in good trim for the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. This gelding only commenced racing over hurdles at the Great Northern • meeting. He finished third in the Pamnurc Hurdles on the second day and Lady England was the only horse to beat him in the Orakei Hurdles on the concluding day. With ordinary luck Gadger should soon reach the winning list.
The Buzzer’s Brother. The Australian-bred two-year-old by The Buzzard from Eastern Belle has been named Eastern Heir. Tho colt is a fullbrother to The Buzzer, who displayed good form last season, and is likely to do even better this year.
Satisfactory Schooling. Queen Lu is progressing very satisfactorily in her schooling work at Te Arolia, and should bo in decidedly good trim for jumping events in the spring. The King Lu mare appears to be getting more solid with age. Te Hai Returns.
Two of tho most recent additions to the active brigade at Ellerslie are To Hai and Jack Tar, who have just returned from a spell. Both horses are in the right order to commence work, and summed up on their previous form they should bo capable of paying their way during tho current season, says a northern writer.
Attractive Youngsters. Among tho yearlings by Foxbridge at Air L. S. Otway’s Trelawney Stud, Cambridge, are a half-sister to Gay Blonde and a half-brother to Amnion Ra. They aro attractive youngsters.
Breeding Of Drinkup.. Now five years old, Drinkup, who was engaged in the Cashmere Plate at Rieearton to-day, is a bay gelding by Tea Tray from tho Birkenhead—Secret Link mare, Link Up,, who is no other than a halfsister to Silver Link (dam of Silvermine, Chief Link, Whenuakura, etc.). Password (grandarn of Deficit), Entro Nous (dam of Guarantee), etc. Ljnk Up was a fair winner without reaching ilio class of some of her relatives, but at the stud she has failed so far to produce anything of account. She is being raced by her breed er, Mr W. AI. Crockett, of Palmerston South. High Caste.
The 1936 colt by Bulandsliar —The Begum, lias had tho name of High Caste bestowed on him. Bred by Air A. J. McGovern, wlio raced his dam, High Caste’s racing career will be followed with interest as he is likely to be one of the first of the Blandford horse, Bulandshar’s stock to race.
Pair Sent nome. The West Coast pair, Land Raid and Hunting Bag, who both failed to stand up to a preparation at Christchurch, have been taken back to Greymouth. Inver Showing Dash.
Last season Inver was making excellent progress in tho early spring and good things were expected of him. Ilfs owner decided on a trip for him to Australia, but he did not do well over there and was not seen at his best. Having enjoyed a good spoil sinco his return it is anticipated that the Iliad —Sunkissed
gelding will provo capable of fulfilling expectations this year. At the present time no fault can bo found with his condition, while his work at Ellerslie is being undertaken with plenty of dash. Lady Ruler Recovering. Lady Ruler, who had her first season of racing over hurdles this year, and won two events worth £330, is gradually getting over the injury she sustained in her last start when she stifled a fence badly. Although the skin was not broken, extreme swelling was the result, and recovery has been slow. Lady Ruler shows good promise as a jumper.
Son Of Cockpit. Cocksure, who was third in the Maiden Stakes at the Christchurch Hunt meeting, is raced in partnership by Hon. 0. R. Hunter and lion. P. C. Webb. Cocksure should not be long in winning races, and be may be a useful sort of liandicapper this season. Just turned three years old, he is a bay son of Cockpit (sire of Wino, etc.), from the Kilbroncy—Merit mare Sapient, a half-sister to Lineage and Whyte Melville, who did good service for tho partnership six or seven years back. Sapient has been unlucky at the stud since getting Cocksure, as the next year she missed and the following year foaled dead twins.
Related to Phar Lap. Happy Night, who was a little unlucky in the Maiden Stakes at the .Christchurch Hunt meeting, is one who should pay his way this season. Ho is a bay colt by Nightinarch from the Gay Lad—Prayer Wheel marc Cay Round fa half-sister to Entreaty, dam of Phar Lap), and as Nightmarch was by Night Raid lie is a very close relative to the “Red Terror.” Bred by Mr J. J. McGrath, he was secured at tho Trentham sales last year by his present owner, Air W. 0.. Rutherford, of lXoilli Canterbury, who carried the bidding to 240 guineas to obtain i. Royal Secret Retired. Royal Secret, who raced on the North Island circuit, including the Manawatu meeting, during the autumn, is to _ be mated with Baffles! Royal Secret is a No. 1 mare by King Lu from Elope, by Chrysolaus (I ho Tctrareh), and on pedigree ranks high. Royal Secret has bad rather a strenuous racing season, having started on 24 occasions.
A Smart Sprinter. Orate, a smart sprinter, lias , resumed work at Te Awarautu, arid will be seen out during spring meetings. He has had a lengthy spell, from which he should have derived considerable benefit. The best performance registered by Orate last season was his victory in the Railway Handicap at Avondale, when lie accounted for several well-performed gallopers. As lie is only a four-year-old, Orate is likely to reveal further improvement this season. Master Brierly Back.
blaster Brierly and Black Musk rejointhe track workers last week at Te x\roha. The former bears a decidedly robust appearance, but is already displaying vim in his work. Black Musk has thickened out somewhat during his few weeks’ respite’ fjjorn work, but is likely to. come to hand early and may be competing at meetings during the spring months (says an exchange). The injury to King Musk's near hind leg lias yielded nicely to treatment and is now practically healed. The Muskeloon gelding is getting through slow work very satisfactorily. Back To Form.
The victories achieved by May Song at Gisborne demonstrated that she is back to form and she is a speedy galloper who may provo capable of further success in the near future. Like most of the stock of Hunting Bong, she is partial .to soft going and the conditions at the early spring meetings should suit her. Alay Song will probably make her next appearance at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting-
