ABSENT JUROR.
JUDGE’S REPRIMAND. Called at 10 a.m. yesterday for service on the jury, Stephen Thomas Gcdson did not appear until 3 p.m., th& Chief Justice, lit. Hon. Sir Michael Myers .then informing him that ho had been fined 40s—and the fine Avould stand. First a letter Avas passed to His Honour, who asked tho defaulting juror Avhy he had not attended that morning.
“I Avas delivering bread,” said the juror. “Do you avisli to he sworn noAV and to tako your chance of being called later, or to go on delivering bread, as suggested here?” asked His Honour.
“1 am afraid I Avill have to,” said the juror. “1 am not going to say that, but I am going to say thnt this morning you Avere fined 40s for not being here, and that the letter hoav before me, from Mr Boniface, and what you liaA-e said just uoaa', constitute neither reason nor excuse for you and ■ Mr Boniface treating the Court with contempt. Tho fine AA-ill remain. I assume that your employer Avill pay it.”
