A & P. ASSOCIATION

GENERAL COMMITTEE. ROYAL SHOW PREPARATIONS. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association’s general committee was held to-day. The chair was occupied by tho president, Mr J. A. Russell. Mr B. McEwen moved to rescind the resolution on the books covering the issue of ladies’ tickets, with members’ tickets, with a view to providing more. The motion was carried, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr McEwen also, to issue two ladies’ tickets, as usual, with the members’ ticket, with full privileges. The Manawatu Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club advised that, owing to the New Zealand Cattle Breeders’ Association discontinuing the subsidising of donations by Jersey Clubs, the club could not make the usual grant for special classes at the Spring Show. In regard to the Jersey female team judging competition, the club was willing to continue the class along similar lines to last year’s, with the exception that the competition be open to only members of Young Farmers’ Clubs. The letter was received. The Royal Agricultural Society forwarded the classes for tho Royal Show schedule, and donations from breed societies and medals for the 1937 Royal Show.—A general discussion followed, it being pointed out that there were classes (for draught horses in particular, and crossbred sheep) which did not at all suit a North Island show. Mr M. A. Eliott moved that the Royal Society be written to pointing out the inability of the association to include three classes for draught horses and also certain classes for sheep. It was suggested that as the schedule had to go to the printer this week, an immediate decision would have to be made. The classes referred to would therefore have to be eliminated or not, forthwith.

Mr S. R. Thomson queried whether that would be a wise course. The society was having a difficult row to hqe and the association should help in every way possible. He thought there would be a larger entry of draught horses from the South Island than ever before. Mr A. C. Morton asked what would be the position of the association. The association had accepted the Royal Show and should have been conversant with the conditions prior to> doing so. The motion was lost, it being deckled to use the Royal Agricultural Society’s schedule. The Dorset Horn Sheepbreeders’ Association wrote seeking the inclusion of classes for that breed of sheep, it being pointed out that the breed was a relatively new one to New Zealand. —lt was decided to include the entries under the heading of “Any other sheep,” .and a suggestion was made that tho association be asked to have any special cards printed if they wanted'further publicity. . Tho Royal Agricultural Society advised that, in regard to an application for a subsidy on stock freights (the sea freight only being paid), nothing could be done in regard to Government grants until Hon. W. Nash returned.—Received. The finance committee reported that Mr J. Hndgens, M.P., had advised that the Minister of Internal Affairs would not grant the association permission to participate in the proceeds of a national art union, but would be prepared to allow tho association to conduct its own art union. The committee had resolved, on the motion of Mr J A. Nash, seconded by Mr L. B. Wall, to thank Mr Hodgens for his assistance, but proposed to continue with smaller art unions.—The report was adopted. Mr J. Shand suggested that the association should increase the size of the ramp at the ringside. Quantities of material would be available free from the various building projects in the city. . It was'decided that inquiries be instituted in this direction. Final consideration was accorded the schedule for the Royal Show. The Manawatu-Oroua Pig Development and Recording Club, now being wound up, forwarded a letter thanking the association for the use of their rooms for meetings.—The letter was received.
