DIRECTOR RETIRES.
Mr A. W. Oak-Rliind, director of the Vacuum Oil Company . Pty., Ltd., having completed 40 years’ service with the company, has decided to retire from active participation in its business. After 27 years’ strenuous work as dilector in charge of motor spirit marketing, and also, during the past 11 years, as director of aviation, he is looking forward to a well-earned rest. Joining the company in its infancy, he has watched the motor industry grow from the time the cars in New Zealand and Australia could bo numbered on the fingers of two hands. Under his able leadership, the aviation activities of the company have shown remarkable progress. Always evincing the keenest possible interest in air transport, lie initiated the acquisition by the company of the first oil-company-owned ’plane, a D.H. Moth, and last year the company acquired a StinsonReliant, in which he, himself, has flown on several occasions. An Englishman by birth, his courtly manner and soft speech, ns well as his outstanding ability, have earned him the deep respect aiid esteem of the whole industry no less than that of the company he has served for almost a lifetime.
