SEA FISHERIES
INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE. PALMERSTON NORTH VISIT. The Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee, which commenced its inquiries at Bluff in the middle of March last and has since been taking evidence at all the ports in both the North and South Islands, with the exception of Wellington, arrived in Palmerston North last evening. This morning it heard evidence from local retailers on matters related to the wholesale and retail prices of fish, crayfish, and oysters. The question of railway freights and services was discussed, also the subject of the number of retail shops in the city.
Mr J. Thorn, M.P., is chairman of the committee, other members being Messrs M. W. Young (assistant Chief Inspector of Fisheries) and E. Sheed (of the Department of Industries and Commerce). Mr Thorn had to return to Thames on business connected with his constituency, and will rejoin his colleagues in Wellington, where the final evidence is to be heard.
Messrs Young and Sheed left Pal mcraton North at 1 p.m. to-day.
