CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 4. , Suspiension for five years. was the penalty imposed by the management committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association to-night on G. Smith, one of the players in the junior A grade match between Trinity' and A 1 r Force at Hagley Park two weeks ago. Another member of the same team, G. Rodcliffe, was suspended until July 1, 1938.
The umpire, Mr H. Teague, alleged that Smith had insulted him personally, had persisted in dangerous play, had refused to leave the field when ordered to do so, had threatened to fight him, and had interfered with the game after he had been sent off. Rodcliffe. said Mr Teague. ’ had refused to give his name, had indulged in dangerous play and had been insulting to him.
