ATLANTIC FLIGHT
COMMERCIAL VENTURE. FLYING BOAT TAKES OFF. DEPARTURE FROM IRELAND. (United Press Association.—-By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 0, 11.15 a.m. LONDON, July 5.
The flying-boat Caledonia left Foynes, Ireland, at 7.57 p.m. on a trans-Atlan-tic commercial flight. Amid cheers from a few hundred of Irish folk, led by the President (Mr de Valera) the Caledonia taxied over the Shannon River and flew into the vast space of the Atlantic. It is difficult now to make history in aviation, but it will be made if the first double trans-Atlantic commercial flight is successful and the way prepared for a permanent regular flying-boat service between the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States, who are the three parties in this great enterprise.
