ORAKEI MAORIS
CRUSADE OF PRAYER. DIVINE GUIDANCE SOUGHT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 5. Following an intimation from tlie Government that they will have to vacate the settlement, Maoris at Orakei have embarked on a crusade of prayer lor Divine guidance. The crusade will be maintained for a month and during that period a selfdenial campaign will he conducted. Prayer meetings have been sponsored by the Orakei Maori branch of the Mothers’ Union, the prime mover being Mrs Maungatai Babbington, who Ims resided at the settlement for five years. She has identified herself prominently with welfare work, paying special attention to the sick and to mothers and children. She led prayers at the inaugural prayer meeting when there was a good muster of mothers from the settlement. Several letters have already been received by Mrs Babbington. from both pnkeha and Maori sympathisers offering assistance, and some members of mothers’ unions have expressed their intention of joining in the prayer meetings.
