BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

PARENTS' ASSOCIATION. A successful year is reviewed in the annual report of the Boys’ High School Parents’ Association. It is announced that the balance-sheet shows gross receipts totalling £3lO 13s 8d and expenditure £232 4s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £7B 9s od. “It is to he noted that the games club contributed £l2 Is lid in order to build up the fund so that a final payment could be made to the contractor who built the cricket pavilion. During the year sight screens lor the cricket ground were purchased, while contributions were made to the Board of Governors (for the prize fund), to the school dramatic club (lor the purchase of suitable plays), and to the King George V Memorial Fund. It is worthy of note that during the years 1925 to 1937, a total of over £IOOO has been spent for equipment, amenities, and grants by the Parents’ Association for the benefit of the school. I here was a reduction in fees as compared with the previous year, only £l6 being collected from 128 members as against £2O 12s 6d from IGS members in 1936. This shows that approximately 267 families have not seen fit to join our association. It is disappointing to point to this retrograde step, particularly when the subscription fee is on.y 2s 6d per family, and it is hoped that all parents will do their utmost to join up, and by doin" so increase their interest in "the school that is doing its utmost to make worthy citizens of the future. The executive does not expect every family to give ol its personal assistance, but it would be encouraged to continue its good work by knowing that all parents were solidly behind it, states the report. The report adds that the gala day was the most successful financially to date. The total receipts were £l2l Is 2d with a net profit of £95 9s 4d. Thanks are due- to the masters, boys, and parents for this most satisfactory result. One card party was held during the vear and showed a net profit of £l2 14s lid. “The ladies of the executive, with Mrs J. Murray, gave of them best, for which they have our thanks, it is stated.
