COMMERCIAL SUMMARY.
BRIGHT OUTLOOK FOR WOOL SALES. BUTTER MARKET QUIET. LONDON, July 3. The confidence with which the markets opened was short-lived owing to tho Spanish situation. Few city business men expect any catastrophic developments, but nnturally thero is no inclination to open new commitments'. Nevertheless any brightening in tho political outlook will probably lead to a sharp advance in tho markets, the undertone of which has been gradually strengthening. The outlook for the wool sales is bright. If Russia and Germany decide to take even moderato weights of greasy combing wool tho mnrkot should be lifted well above Bradford prices for tops. It is anticipated that Franco’s competition will be keener than usual. As was anticipated, butter has drifted lower and there is a definite lack of inquiry. Toole.v Street merchants do not expect any appreciable recovery for tho time being and business should bo quiet and uninteresting. Apples wero readily cleared during the past week at Improved prices. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has carried out an intensive campaign during the past two months over Northumberland, Durham, and Yorkshire, the local trade keenly co-operated and extensive advertising also helped to make the public “New Zealand lamb conscious.” Numerous competitions and displays wero held, including prizes for children for colouring miniature New Zealand posters. The hoard entertained 4000 enthusiastic youngsters at a showing of New Zealand films at Newcastle, where I the prizes were presented.
