EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD. JULY 5, 1207.
King Edward VII had opened the Union Jack Club in Waterloo Road, London, as a memorial lo soldiers and sailors killed in the Boer War. The United States Government had imposed a poll tax of four dollars on cac-h white person entering the country. Everything had been in readiness for the opening of the now waterworks at Tiritea, but the official ceremony bad been postponed until better weather could bo exported. New 7oaland bad been raised to the status of a Dominion.
A dairy factory had been erected at Stoncv Creek. A meeting had been called to discuss the erection of a factory at Kniranga. Two rams had been sold at the’Sydney sheep sale for over 650 guineas each. At a meeting of Terrace End resident,» it had been decided to urge the Borough Council to erect a public hail and provide a recreation ground at that end of the town. Tt had also been decided to bold a eompetition for a more suitable name for the suburb.
