WINTER SUNSHINE. FROCKING OF THE LADIES
Feminine patrons at the winter meeting of tiie Manawatu Racing Club at Awnpuni on Saturday sought the sunshine which flooded the lawn in pale gold. Although, the sky clouded somewhat, later in the afternoon, for most of the day it was of that soft blue often seen in the colder months, with fleecy white clouds drifting lazily. The grass was very green and provided a pleasing carpet for many feet; a bed of marigolds blooming bravely on the edge of the lawn near the track and lending a bright note of colour. In the clear air the hills wore outlined distinctly and their beauty was freely commented on.
Though one lady patron was hoard to remark that the meeting was more like a summer one than a winter gathering, the chilliness of the air belied her words. The ladies were glad of their cosy coats, and wrapped them more closely around them. Many fur ones were seen ns well as a variety of smart winter styles with fur collars, and some plain bolted cloth coats, tweed also playing its part in coals and costumes. A number of costumes made an appearance, and were worn with furs or underneath coats to ensure warmth. AA'orn to match Ihe wearer’s outfit were the high-crowned hats with quills and toques with eye-veils. In keeping with tho time of the year, the colours struck a sombre note, navy blue, black, and brown being favourites. Another popular colour was green in various shades. In the absence of the wife of the president (Mrs C. Louisson), who is visiting Australia, Airs L. 11. Collinson anil Airs It. J. Jacobs, the wives of the two vice-presidents, were hostesses at luncheon and afternoon tea parties. Airs Collinson was wearing a musquash fur coat over a tailored costume of hunter’s green with a light stripe, her hat in a matching shade being ornamented with a quill. Airs Jacobs had chosen a beige Cumberland tweed suit with a full length coat trimmed with a beige fox collar, an ice blue jumper and beige felt beret.
Between forty and fifty guests were entertained at luncheon and afternoon tea, Iceland poppies and autumn leaves decorating the tables.

Alansford), the latter wearing a brown tailored costume with a beige and lace and satin blouse, a musquash fur coat, brown high-crowned hat; Alesdamcs 11. \V.
