BEBBINGTON SHIELD.

BUSH RETAIN TROPHY. Superior passing won the clay for the Bush representative team on Saturday when they withstood a challenge by Southern Hawke’s Bay for the Bcbbington Shield, winning by 19 points to 3. The play was fast and there was a very large attendance at the Pahiatnn Showgrounds, where the match was staged. A series of passing bouts provided the first prolonged attack on the part of Bush, but eventually a Dannevirke player was carried over the line. Dannevirke then took play to the opposition half and Grant was successful with a penalty kick. A passing bout in which Stringfellow and McShen-y were' concerned took the ball to Southern Hawke’s Bay territory and a little later Bush were awarded a penalty kick, for Riddell to pilot the ball over the bar. Riddell received from Stringfellow and crossed the line with a burst of speed. He converted his own try. Cameron added another try for Bush after half-time and then Southern Hawke’s Bay made determined efforts to score, the play being fast. Wolland touched down for Bush near the corner and Riddell added the extra points. T. Harvey scored Bush’s last try.
