OBITUARY
MR T. COLTMAN, SENR. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 4. Mr Thomas Coltinan, a well-known resident of Wellington and a familiar figure in sporting circles, died on Saturday from heart failure at the age of 77. He was horn in Yorkshire and came to New Zealand in the early eighties and took part in the gold rush on the West Coast. In 1887 he married Miss Julia Mandle, of Hokitika, and after leaving the Coast they settled in Wellington. Up to about 10 years ago Mr Coltman was in business as a watcliniaker and jeweller. He was a. keen swimmer and boxer, and as a young man was a good cricketer and captain of the Hokitika Rugby team in the early days. Ho was a vice-president of tho Wellington Wrestling Association and official timekeeper, an old member of the Wellington Bowling Club and a regular attendant at the Trentham races. As a bass singer of quality Mr Coltma.il was a member of St. Mary of the Angels choir for some years and also of the original Wellington Amateur Operatic Society. Mr Coltman leaves a widow, one son, Mr Thomas Coltman, licensee of the Grand Hotel, and one daughter, Mrs A. Clark, of Palmerston North. Tho funeral will be held to-morrow.
