FINE ON CLERIC.

PAID BY UNKNOWN PERSON

Received July 3, 10 a.m. LONDON, July 2

The payment of Dr. Johnstone’s fine for contempt of Court by a secret donor saves him from gaol. Dr. Johnstone was surprised at the payment of his fine. He does not know the identity of the donor.

The Belfast presbytery at a special meeting passed a resolution of sympathy and confidence with Dr. Johnstone and indignation at the severity of the sentence. The meeting decided to take legal opinion.
