COMPROMISE PROPOSAL. FOUR NEW JUDGES. REPLACEMENT AT AGE OF 75. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph,—Copyright.) Received July 3, 11.35 a.m. WASHINGTON, July 2. Senator Robinson has introduced a compromise in the Supreme Court measure, ostensibly having the approval of President Roosevelt, under the provisions of which the President would he empowered to appoint four additional Justices at the rate of one each year for each one sitting who has reached the age of 75.
President Roosevelt’s original bill proposes that the President he given power to appoint an additional Justice to duplicate any Justice of the Supreme Court who is over 70 and has held office for 10 years or more. His object is to increase the number of Justices who are favourably disposed towards his New Deal legislation.
