(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, July 2.
The Mayor (Mr E. llutl) is still indisposed and was again unable to he present at the Borough Council meeting this week. Those present were: Crs A. K. Tlvde (I)einUy Mayor), W. Clayton. F. ('. Peach, J. Curran, jnm\. R. R. Lind, J. A. Roach. It. E. Downes, and J. Curran, sour. No action was taken regarding correspondence from the Municipal Association suggesting that (he conned affiliate with the Local Employers’ Association. It was resolved to btsfal four additional street lights— Julyan Street, Sheehan Street, the corner of WhilTnker and Ballaneo Streets, and Nathan Terrace. It was resolved to write to Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., suggesting that consideration'be given to tho revival of the flax industry, which would mean the placing of a number of men in permanent work at which they are' skilled workers. The formation of a road giving a direct route between Koputaroa. and Shannon and banking of the stream on Iho old Foxton Road were also suggested as possible schemes. -The Building Commissioner reported that the housing survVy required |,v the regulations was completed and Ihe necessary plan bail been forwarded to the Director of Housing l 'onstruction. In conti nuance of the boflutifyirijC? scheme in the town, Ihe council intend to prepare a portion of the Domain greunds and later plant about 100 ornamental shrubs. . . The Bueklev Drainnirc Board arc raising a loan of £IOOO for flood damage repair. The work carries a Government subsidy. Mrs Butters has moved to Bunnythorpe. IT Anderson, tho local Rugby player who has been selected for the Possibles v. Probables trial match, has shown great promise throughout the season and his well-wishers will congratulate him on tho distinction received.
