WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
NORTH WELLINGTON FEDERATION. The executive committee of the North Wellington Federation of Women's Institutes met this week. Miss M. Grant presided, also present being Mesdames Waring Taylor (Shannon), A. McCorkindale (Feilding), A. P. Easton and Symons (Foxton), A. K. Drew (Sanson), G. B. Gregory (Marton), S. Barnicoat (Kimbolton), T. Lynch (Linton), E. E. Short and W. G. Short (Cheltenham). Sympathy was expressed with Mrs R- H. Guthrie (Rangiwahia) in a family bereavement. Notification was received from the Feilding Agricultural School Board that Mervyn Marshall, of Cunninghams, had been awarded the scholarship given by the federation. The financial statement was presented by Mrs Barnicoat and the following donations were acknowledged : Dominion executive: Stanway, £1 10s; Paraewanui, 10s. North Wellington: Stanway, 10s; Apiti, £1 Is; Paraewanui. £l.
Airs Drew presented a report on the display made by the institutes at the Winter Show. She expressed appreciation of the help given and the excellence of the exhibition. In this connection a letter of appreciation was received from Stanway. An anonymous donation of £1 5s to cover the insurance of the exhibits was gratefully acknowledged. A general discussion with regard to future displnys followed and Afrs AlcCorkindale outlined developments in the training of judges among institute members. The Health Department solicited information regarding maternity services.
Various matters in connection with the forthcoming drama, folk-dancing and glee-singing festival were considered and it was resolved to send further information to the institutes. Airs W. G. Short, one of the delegates, presented a comprehensive report on the round table conference held recently in Wellington. Airs Barnicoat, the other delegate. will present her report at the next meeting. UTUWAI INSTITUTE. The T T tuwai Women’s Institute's first annual ball was held on Wednesday and pro,ed an outstanding success. The hall was tastefully decorated with greenery, while paper 'streamers in Coronation shades lent a festive air. Music was provided by Mr J. Hansen and Air It. Prince. Extras were contributed by Mrs Nesdale and Aliss Searle while the duties of Al.C.’s were carried out by Alessrs H. Viics and H. AlacKeiizie. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Aliss J. Scarlc and Air N". Hart, while Aliss O. Hcminiiigs and AJr It. Forbes were the winners of the lucky spot waltz. Among those dancing were: Alesdames A. Roberts, ivpry georgette and lace; Wingate, violet velvet; Flavoll, black georgette; N Viics, black figured tunic frock; <J.
