Carrying companies in the South Island had been handicapped ' through being unable to secure suitable horses, and as a result buyers had visited the Manawatu and purchased large numbers. The Ivairanga Hall bad been officially opened by Mr W. T. Wood, M.11.R. A telephone line connecting Melbourne and Svdncv had been completed. The British revenue for the June quarter had been £32.650,000. Customs had contributed £8 259,000, excise £7629, and stamps £1,920.000. . The New Zealand Farmers Union, in conference, had declared itself in favour of the limitation of large holdings of land so as to remove a suspicion that it was being influenced by the hig land owners. A Trevena, who had played Rugby for Ecilding on the previous day, had cycled 40 miles to participate and had cycled home after the game.
