POTATO EXPORTS.

BOON TO CANTERBURY

The demand from South America for potatoes lias come as a boon to Canterbury farmers who have dug a heavy crop this season; much too heavy tor the Dominion’s requirements. With the Commonwealth barred to our potatoes Southern dealers turned their attention further afield, and last season the South American market was tested, with satisfactory results. This success mis been followed up this season, amd already 15 700 tons have been dispatched to the same source. The demand continues, and if steamer space is available it is considered that 20,000 to 20,000 tons mav be exported. . But for this outlet prices would undoubtedly have slumped. As it is the southern farmer is in a strong position to bargain over the requirements ot the North Island, and Aucklanders today are paying over £ 0 a ton tor wholesale quantities ddivered m the city.
