FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) . FOXTON, June 30.
Ail interesting link with the old milling days in this district has been severed by the disposal of the old launch 1 aihoa, which for tho past twenty years has lain on tho bank at the northern end of. the Foxton Harbour Board shed, ’flic 1 aihoa, brought to Foxton many years ago by tho laic Mr W. Signal, was acquired by him in Auckland and railed to Taumarunui. Untruckcd there, the launch was placed on the river, taken down to Wanganui, and thence along the coast to Foxton. Iho late Mr Signal used the launch to haul punts laden with hemp and tow from the mills which were operating at that time at tho back of tho Himatangi run. In fact, on one occasion tho Taihoa journeyed almost, right up tho river to Palmerston North. For many years minus an engine, the launch was shipped as deck cargo for Picton, whore her owner intends reconditioning and refitting her with the object of placing her in the passenger service in the Sounds. At tho monthly meeting of the Te Awahou Sea Scout Committee. Scoutmaster Croft, a visitor from Wellington, was present. An invitation was received from Commissioner Stubbs, inviting the .local committee to.visit the Palmerston North committee. Reports were received advising that the Rovers, Scouts, and, Cubs were progressing satisfactorily. There was a good attendance of members of the Moutoa Estate Football Chib on the, occasion of a dinner given for the purpose of farwolling Mr G. Alexander and Messrs Harold and Jack Alexander, members pf the j unior team, who have loft Foxton to take up their residence in Westport. After wishing Messrs Alexander every success in tlicir new home, Mr A. J. Devonshire asked them to accept tokens of esteem from their follow- members. -
