FLOODS RECEDING.
ROADS NEAR NORMAL. Per Press Association. WHANGAIIEI. July 2. AVhangarei recovered rapidly from the flood conditions yesterday and. although the weather is still wet. things are back to normal. Carnival Week, held in conjunction with the Winter Exhibition is back into its stride; conditions on the roads are improving and communication is possible with Auckland. While the traffic with the north is getting through the Mangakahia Valley there is still water at Kawakawa. but all the roads in the Far North are open. .Things are not so happy with the railways, the latest information being that communication with Auckland will not l>e restored until Monday at the earliest. Good progress has been made with the clearing of the northern line and this morning a train got ihrough to Hukerenui and is expected to go further this afternoon.
TAYO SUBSIDENCES

AUCKLAND, July 2. The flood waters are receding and the main road to Whangarei is again open, but the northern railway will not be operating before the week-end. There are two extensive subsidences in the line, one at Tauraroa, north of Waiotira Junction, and the other at Portland, near AVhangarei. Drizzling rain still is falling in Auckland and the total fall for the 24 hours to nine o’clock this morning is 1.45 inches. At AA'ark worth. TO miles north cf Auckland, the fall from nine o’clock on Wednesday till nine o’clock yesterday was 5.2 iibcb.es. Reports indicate that the fall has cased off and the water is receding everywhere.
