STOWAWAY ARRESTED.

ADMITTED TO PROBATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 1. A young Australian, who told the Magistrate that he was starving in California and in desperation stowed away at San Pedro on the steamer Waiotapu, was arrested on the arrival of the vessel. He pleaded guilty to-dav to stowing away. He* is Douglas Carwardme Cotterill, aged 20, who, since he left Fremantfe in November, 1935, has travelled extensively in Europe. Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., decided, on account of his Youth, to admit Cotterill to probation for a year, and ordered him to pay £3O, the amount of the fare, in weekly instalments.
