Per Press Association. NEAV PLYMOUTH, July 1Exceptionally severe frosts in Taranaki have resulted in unusual condi-* tions and a number of accidents. Icecovered bitumen on a bill between Midhurst and AA’aipuku was responsible for a remarkable series of events. A ear driven by Police Inspector J. Powell skidded on tbe way downhill. The driver lost control, and the car finished up in a ditch. Meantime, another victim of the ice was Mr R. Nelson, Remuera, whose car was considerably damaged when it struck a bank. Mr" AY. Brooke-Taylor. Eltham, was helping Mr Powell when a third car skidded nnd struck Air Taylor, knocking him 30ft down a gully. Three ears, a truck aird a motor cycle came to grief at the Otakeho bridge approaches, which were rendered very dangerous. An unusual sight was the frozen surface of a large lake in King Edward Park. Hawera, TVs has never occurred before. Members of the Mount Egmont Alpine Club skied along the roads and down the frozen grassy slopes of small hills.
