DETONATORS AND GELIGNITE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 30. The danger of playing with detonators was stressed i>y Mr H. P. La wry, b.AL, ill the Children's Court at l’etone, when a. boy was charged with two others who will appear to-morrow, with the theft of HOO detonators, and also with theft of eight sticks of gelignite on one day. and six sticks of gelignite on another. In all, lour charges of theft were made against the boy, and one ol : mischief. Another boy appeared on two charges of theft. Detective F. N. Robinson said the boy and two others stole the gelignite and detonators from the Gracefield quarry, breaking into the concrete magazine. They emptied the powder out of the detonators and threw stones until the powder exploded. One of the boys threw some of the detonators away, which were found bv young children. A man came to the )>olice station .and said he found his child with a detonator in his mouth, lie took the detonator away from the child and threw it in a fire, and then there was an explosion. Air Lawry said the boys might have been killed and the detonators were capable of blowing up a house. The child who had the detonator in his mouth, might have had his head blown off, as biting on a. detonator would explode it. The boys, who were first offenders, were admonished and discharged and ordered to make restitution.
