TOBACCO GROWING.
RESEARCH TO BE UNDERTAKEN. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 1. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) states that the recent conference at Motueka of the Tobacco Board, growers and Government representatives decided on the immediate purchase of 15 acres in the Nelson or Motueka districts for the purpose of erecting a research station. The problem of mosaic disease will be one of the first tackled. The Tobacco Board has undertaken to make a grant of one-eighth of a penny per pound on the 1935-30 and' 1936-37 crops to cover half the cost of the station. The Government will provide the rest by subsidy. Applications are to be called immediately for a director of the research station.
