BOBBY CALF TRADE.
CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 30. Over sixty representatives of interests concerned in the hobby calf trade met in conference at Auckland to-day at the invitation of Mr E. J. Phelan, No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, who presided. During the forenoon the two groups concerned, carriers and buyers, met separately and considered a scheme submitted by Air Phelan, and a combined conference is being held this afternoon. In addressing the preliminary conference, Air Phelan said that the time had arrived when a genuine effort should he made lo remedy the disorganised conditions. “From m,v observations,” he said, “1 am satisfied that the conditions in the past have been appalling and that there is the utmost, justification for giving serious attention to this problem.”
Two aspects calling for attention, he said, were the purchasing of calves and matters relating to transport. It was desirable that the carriers should not be bound to individual firms.
