A ratlicr larger yardir g of cattle was offered at the JohsonfTlle stock sale yesterday. Prime, heavjgvright bullocks met with spirited competition at late rates. Light prime catfflr unproved by about, 10s a head, withlam sorts, as always at this sale, difffnlt to dispose of The female cattle I yarded were mostly ex-dairy and mfcflnr quality station cattle. The few penfol prune cows sold at lato rates, hut |he balance of the yarding was disposed of at P'joes 5s to 10s a head cheaper than last week. The wethers yarded were of exceptional quality and sold readily at Is to Is 6d a head better. Due to a smaller offering prices for porkers showed a further hardening tendency. Good yardings of sheep and cattle met with a ready sale at full late prices. prevailed throughout the sale. A larger yarding accounted for fat sheep values being easier. Ewes predominated, a large percentage being light to medium. Host quality made to 335, medium 26s Gd to 275, light 21s to 235; extra heavy wethers 40s lUd ; prime two-tooth wethers, splendid older, 37s Id. Hoggets were chiefly small and medium grown, the best making 265.
BURNSIDE MARKET. 1 per Rress Association. DUNEDIN, June 30. A general easing in prices for beef and an improvement, lor mutton were j the main features of the Burnside c stock sale to-day. Fat cattle totalled J--370, which included a few trucks of prime ox, but the bulk consisted _ of j medium sorts. Adverse conditions ; were reflected in many of 1 lie medium 2 cattle showing lack of finish. On the j average prices receded by 10s to los ] a head on last week’s I'ates. WESTFIELD VALUES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 30. Good quality beet was more plentiful nt Westfield to-day than for some time past. It was only an average yadring, however, and a decided improvement was revealed in the standard of cows and heifers. Values were well maintained. Extra choice ox sold at 32s a 1001 b, choice and prime, 28s to 31s; unfinished, 25s to 28s; prime cow and heifer beef, 25s to 295; unfinished, 17s to 245; extra heavy steers, £l3 to £ls 2s Gd; heavy, £ll 10s to £l3 17s Gd; medium, £lO 12s Gd to £l2 7s Gd; light, £9 to £lO 17s Gd; unfinished, £G to £9; extra heavy cows and heifers, £3 10s to £lO 1 os”; heavy, £"_ 10s to £9; medium, £6 15s; heavy, £7 10s to £9: medium, £6 to £7 10s; light, £4 10s to £6 5s : unfinished, £3 to £4 15s. Sheep supplies were short. Quality generally was prime, and values for wethers advanced by about 2s a head. Ewes were quoted firm. Lambs were scarcer and mad 6 very firm prices. Jn an average entry of calves there was a good quality lot of runners and heavy vealers. Light, and, small calves were scarce. Values improved by up. to 4s a head under. spirited competition. Runners made £2 lOs to £7 18s; heavy vealers £4 5s to £6 3s, medium £3 14s to £4, light £3 to £3 9s. £2 6s to £2 17s, unfinished £1 8s to £2 ss, bobby and rough, ss.to 28s. More pigs were penned, but quality was not so good as at recent sales. Heavy baconers maintained fully late quotations but porkers were slightly easier. Choppers made £2 to £3 18s; heavy baconers £4 to £4 14s, medium £3 15s to £3 19s, light £3 5s to £3 ; 11s • heavy porkers £2 14s to £2 19s; medium £2 6s to £2 12s, light £1 18s to '£2 2s, small and unfinished 16s to 1 -£1 14s; stores 16s to 255; slips 8s to ’ 16s; weaners 3s to 13s. Baconers averaged 6pi to 7d per lb. and porkers 6d ' to GJd.
