HORTICULTURE WORK.
NEAV ZEALAND INSTITUTE. The following were present at the monthly meeting of the .executive council, which was held at Wellington recently: Air F. S. Pope (president), Dr. Oliver, Alessrs Campbell, AlacKenzie, Dallas, Alason, Poole, Hyde, and G. S. Nicoll (Dominion secretary). On the invitation of the AA'el ling ton Philosophical Society, the president agreed to act as the institute’s representative on the committee sot up in connection with the erection of a suitable memorial to Dr. Cockayne, F.R.S.. to mark his grave in the Otari Open-air Native Plant Museum. The superintendent of parks- and reserves at Invercargill advised that, in a new agreement between his City Council and the Southland Labour Union, it had been arranged tiiat holders of the institute’s diploma in horticulture should receive higher remuneration on account of this qualification. and appreciation of this action was expressed. It was decided to advise district councils of the position.
