DAMAGES AWARDED.
VERDICT IN MALA CASE. SYDNEY, June 30. The jury iu the Mala ease returned a verdict in favour of the owner, Mr H. E. llussell, who was awarded £ISOO damages. A stay of proceedings was granted.
H. E. Russell, owner and trainer of Mala, brought an action in the Supremo Court against tho Commissioner of Road Transport and Tramways to recover £3OOO damages owing to injuries to Mala, when it was struck by a tram on Derby morning, October 3, stated a Sydney cable on June'2l. Mr J. Cassidy, who was appearing for Russell, claimed that Mala injured a fetlock and legs as the result of which his chances of winning tho A..J.C. Derby and subsequent Sydney and Melbourne classic events, also the Great Northern Derby in New Zealand, were seriously prejudiced. The mishap, Mr C.assidy contended, was primarily due to the excessive speed of the tram.
