WEDDINGS.

HOCKEN—AIcCONNON

BROOKING—BLIXT. Iceland poppies and autumn tinted I foliage formed the simple decorations jat All Saints’ Church, yesterday after■noon, when Jean Ellen, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. W. Blixt, of Awahou, was married to John Arthur, only son ot Mr A. Brooking, of Utuwai, and the late Mrs Brooking. Rev. A. I. Farnell, of Ashhurst, performed the ceremony and Mr J. Holmes Ruimicles presided at the organ. Escorted by her father, the bride made a lovely picture in her classical gown of magnolia satin fashioned with a fitting Skirt inset, with a long vandyked train finished with lace appliques. The soft cowl neckline was caught with a diamante clasp and the leg-o’mutton sleeves fitted tightly at the wrist and were pointed over the hands. Finishing the bodice at the back was a row of tiny satin buttons. The beautiful tulle veil edged with a deep border of lace fell from a coronet of pearls and orange blossoms and a sheaf of freesias, camellias, lilies and maiden hair fern was cairied, completing a happy effect. Attending the bride was her sister, Miss Betty Blixt, who wore a picture frock of blue pheasant’s eye taffeta, featuring a long fully flared skirt with a tunic basque at the back. The high bcdice had small revers at the neck-line and short puff sleeves. A silver plaited bandeau finished with tiny pink flowers was worn on the hair, and the bouquet carried by the bridesmaid was of pink camellias, cyclamen, freesias - and maiden hair fern.

Mr Mervvn Searle, cousin of the bridegroom, capably carried out the duties of best man.

Following the ceremony, a large number of guests were entertained at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s tearooms, where the tables were effectively arranged with Iceland poppies and foliage. Predominating was the handsome two-teired wedding cake. Mrs Biixt (mother of the bride) received the guests wearing a smart tunic frock of Kenya rust wool georgette with brown peach-bloom hat and brown ao-

cessories and she" carried a posy of violets and maiden hair fern. Assisting her was Aliss Roberts (aiint of tho bridegroom), who'was attired in a navy blue ensemble with' navy hat and accessories, her posy being in autumn tints. Later, Mr and Mrs J. Brooking left by car for the north, the latter travelling in a brown tailored costume with brown velour hat, fur stole (the gift of the bridegroom), and accessories to tone and she carried a coat of chenille tweed.

The young couple will reside at Utuwai.

A wedding of wide interest was celebrated at St. John's Anglican Church, Feilding, on Wednesday evening, June 10, when Patty, youngest daughter of Air and Airs W. AlcConnon, of 'Aorangi, was married to Albert Selwvn, youngest son of Air and Mrs H. E. liocken, of “Grassinere,” Colyton. The service was conducted by Rev. Archdeacon Petrie, and Mrs Golding officiated at the organ. The church had been decorated by friends of the bride to form an arch from which was suspended a beautiful floral wedding bell, made by Aliss Hocken, and under which the bridal couple stood. Entering the church escorted by her father to the strains of the hymn, “The Voice that Breathed O’er Eden,” the bride was becomingly gowned in ivory , embossed chenille velvet, beautifully' cut oil Grecian lines. The high neckline was softly cowled, and the very full Raglan sleeves were shirred at the shoulders and wrists. The slipper-length skirt was cut with long panels, flaring fully from the knees to form a long train. Her richly-embroidered veil formed a second train and was held in position well back off the face with a coronet of pearls, having orange-blossom sprays at either side. Ivory’ satin slippers and a lxniquet of cream winter roses completed the toilette. The bridal attendants, Aliss Freda Hayward and Aliss Hazel Hocken. preceded the bride, who was followed up the aisle by Aliss Betty Grant (chief). They were gowned in angelskin lace in three tones of apricot, cut on princess lines, with short puffed sleeves, having satin buttons from neck to hem, finished with satin collars and half-belts. They wore silver sprays in their hair, to match their silver sandals, and carried bouquets which toned with their frocks, tied with silver ribbon. The beautiful cornered bouquets carried by the bride and her maids were made and presented by Airs AlcL. Dowie, of Hawera. The bridegroom was attended by Air B.
