CLEANING TORTOISE-SHELL.

To clean and polish tortoiseshell, make a paste of soft green soap and French chalk. Mix well, rub it on to the tortoiseshell with soft flannel or cloth, remove with a clean cloth, and finally polish with a piece of old silk.

When food boils over on the stove, cover liberally with salt, and there will be no unpleasant odour. It is easily cleaned away when the stove is cool. If the shells are cracked, add a little vinegar to the water in which eggs are to be boiled.
