DICTATORS AT FAULT.
SPEECH BY AIR P. FRASER. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, June 29. “Since 1914 we h .-ive never been closer to a world war than last Thursday.,” said the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) at a reception at Wliangarei. He attributed the present crisis to the rise of dictatorships and militarism and said that democracy was in danger of being scrapped, as in Germany, Italy and other countries, unless it adjusted itself to the present ever changing complexities. New Zealand must play her part in contributing to the maintenance and safeguarding of the British Commonwealth, the greatest force for upholding demon acy. The Alinister emphasised the necessity of giving children free access fo the fountains of knowledge so thas they could judge the facts and thir.k tor themselves. Intelligent, well informed people were the only real safeguard for democracy in the Dominion, the most democratic country in the world. An attempt was being made toapply democratic ideals in relation t<> economic production.
