ALL SAINTS’ HOME
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of friends of the All Saints’ Children’s Home was held last evening, the acting-chairman (Rev. W. Langston) presiding. In speaking of the statement of accounts, Mr H. G. Bagnall, the treasurer. said that in the year the maintenance charges had increased by £2O and wages by £SO. In the course of a general discussion it was pointed out by the chairman that money which might have gone to the capital account had had to be applied to maintenance. Tho report and the balance-sheet were adopted. “Our host of friends and supporters have loyally continued their good lies; to us by their generous donations and gifts in kind and by their visits to the home, and their interest in what is being done. It is not possible to mention ail our good friends by name, but to everyone we express ou r sincere thanks. and we assure them it is they who do mn "h to make All Saints’ Home the happy and comfortable place it is lor our charges and also make the splendid work of the staff lighter and more congenial than it otherwise would be. To the matron and her staff we express our thanks and appreciation of the work of love they nobly carry on for the sake of His little ones. During the past year we have been bereft of the presence and help of Mr F. Owtram. He was one of the original founders of our home and during all the years since he gave and worked unstinting]}' for it. His interest never tired; in his passing the home has lost a real friend. Mrs L. A. Abraham is, we regret to say, still prevented through ill-health from being at our meetings, but she still takes a keen interest in the home and her influence is of value to us It will be seen, from the balance-sheet, that the home has benefited during the year from grants from estates; for this helji the committee is indeed grateful “Once more we extend our thanks to our faithful secretary, Mr C. H. Hand ley, and to Mr H. G. Bagnall, our treasurer, to the ladies’ committee, ol which Miss Whyte is secretary, as well as to Mr Martyn Abraham, honorary solicitor, Dr. Ward for his medical ser vices, Mr Ashworth for his valuable help in, the garden, and to Mr W. T Penny for again auditing the accounts All our children are in excellent health, and we look forward to another year’s fruitful work.’’ The following officers were elected:— President, Mr Langston; vice-presi-dents, Archdeacon Petrie and Messrs Bagnall and 0. Monrad; treasurer, Mr Bagnall; secretary, Mr C. H. Handley: trustees, Messrs A. E. Mansford, L. G. Callis, L. M. Abraham, N. Blackmore, T. B. Arlidge, J. W. Whelan, and G. C. Iveeble, Colonel J. IT. Whyte. Revs. F. S. Ramson (St. Peter’s), C. W. Bergin (Foxton), A. J. Fnrnell (Ashhurst); lion, auditor, Mr W. T. Penny ; bon. legal adviser, Mr Abraham. On the motion of Mr Abraham, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded tlje ladies’ committee, the speaker eulogising their services. He said the whole responsibility of the running of the home had rested with them. It would be advisable, he thought, if the board loulcl hold a combined meeting with the ladies.
Seconding the motion, Mr Bagnall laid that the fact that the trustees had had nothing to consider had been a tribute to the efficiency of the laaies’ committee.
The motion was carried with acclamation and it was decided to hold a join billed meeting. Mr Callis suggested that a specia’ ■ffort be made for the next birthday party of the home so that it would prove a greater attraction for parishioners. A motion was passed that the subject be discussed at the combined meeting of the ladies’ committee with the board of trustees.
A r otes of thanks were accorded the lion, solicitor (Air Abraham), tTie lion, auditor (Mr Penny), the Alonawatu Meat Company, and Mr E. F. Tliwaites (for donations of meat), the Dental Clinic (for services to the children) and all who had assisted in other directions in the course of the year. The matron (Mrs Bain) was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, the proposer (Air Abraham) saying it was extraudinarily fortunate that such a capable and sympathetic woman occupied the position. The secret of her success vas that she had a wonderful love for the children and, in addition to cariwr vo well for them, she had a thorough grasp of the business affairs of the home.
Mr Callis, who lias charge of tho All Saints’ Home Scouts, commented warmly on the well-mannered behaviour >f the children and the woy in which they were dressed and cared for. while the chairman said they were most respectful and the home itself was beautifully kept-all of which reflected great credit- on the matron. The motion was carried with acclamation and votes of thanks were also accorded the chairman and the Press, Air Bagnall commenting that the latter were very sympathetic where matters connected with the home were concerned.
