(!'rom Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKAROXGO, June 28. Recently Miss Christine Christianson, prior to her marriage, was tendered a kitchen tea. A jolly time., was spent with games, competitions and dancing, music being supplied by Miss Jean Wood and Air J. Rotnlcy. Air AI. E. Knudeon called on the bride-elect to accept a number of parcels. i\fr S. Mathews returned thanks on behalf of Miss Christianson and himself. The School Queen Committee held a poster ball recently, the function being a very enjoyable one. The hall was transformed by the use of greenery and purple and .gold, the school colours. An innovation was the sit-down supper. Tho opportunity was taken to call on Mr and Mrs J. Stuart, who leave the district shortly, to accept a travelling rug and a cheque from the district. In making the presentation, Mr Knudsen referred to Mr Stuart’s service on the School Committee for some years, he having hold the position of chairman and secretary. Mrs McCormick judged the costumes, of which there were very few. The prize for the beet lady’s dress went to Miss P. Sigglekow (A Page from Shillings); man, Messrs N. Smith and K. Steer (Two Old Salts) ; original lady. Miss J. Harvey (Scotch Whisky); man, Mr W. Bainbridge (butcher). Others in costume were: Misece 1.. Sppedy, tablet: if. Vautier, Blue; J. Smith, Coffee; L. The girls playing were Misses L. Smith, G. Jones, T. Ncwcombe, V. Puklowski, 11. Christianson, I. Johanson, J. Harvey, M. Hodgson and I’. Christiansen. At the fortnightly euchre and dance for Hall Queen funds prizes were won by the following:—Ladies. Miss Parker 1, Miss L. 'Speedy 2, Miss M. Speedy consolation men, Messrs R. Puklowski and R. Gore, .sent-., equal. the latter also getting second prize; Mr N. Speedy consolation. Mr J. Stuart gave his long promised talk on Chile before leaving the district. Having been born there, the speaker was able to present a vorv vivid picture of Val"nraiso, and its life, exports and imports. Mr Stuart slated that he had been living there in 1906 when Valparaiso experienced a terrific earthquake in which oyor ten thousand people lost their lives in a low minuter:. At the conclusion of his talk, Mr Stuart was accorded a vote of thanks for a v'-rv interesting lecture. Mr'B. Hodgson left at the week-end to commence working in tire Wellington disniot. ilrs Hastings has Mrs E. Lancaster, of Palmerston North, staying with her. Mi and Mrs J. Stuart and family leave the listriet shortly to take up residence in Dannevirke. The Palmer family, from Pohangina. will succeed them, ill' and MrW. Byers’s visitors leave New Zealand this week to return to their home in Australia. A Paddy’s Market, was hold in the Hal! for Hall Queen funds on Saturday aftor•iooii. There was a wonderful response to the request for saleable good*. Mr H. Gore introduced Mr J. G. Cobbc, who -omplimented those responsible for the <ns,lav and declared tho market for Miss Uhrbom’s funds open. The stalls and hold ~,-g were:—Meat stall. Mrs Uhrbom. Messrs W. Vautier and 11. Gore; vegetables, Messrs D. Romley. A. Crawford, and JJ. Tndg.snn; cake?. Mesdames Sly and Morgan; fancy stall, Mesdames F. Coutts and 7 UoLouvev; sweets and ice-cream, Mrs r-T Hosking and Mrs R. Young; fish pond, MUses M. and W. Vautier; amusement,). Mwe Clinton, Messrs F. Coutts, 0. Rolio:ham, T. Ksplin, J. Morris, and T. Vautier; afternoon tea. Mesdames Hastings. The luckv door ticket was won by Mr Cmlbv, the Monte Carlo by Mips Hodge •md Partner, and the lucky spot by Miss M. Vautier and Mr H. Gore Return fviendlv matches of basketball and football were played on Friday afternoon against teams from the Bunnythorpc School. The basketball team comprised May Tohansnn.
