BATTERY PARADE
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. ADDRESS BY COMMANDER. Efficiency trophies won by tbe mem-b-'its of the 7th and Bth Butteries oi the Royal New Zealand Eield -Artillery were presented at a special parade held hibt evening at which the brigade commander, Lieut.-Colonel R. AV. teuton, K.N.Z.A., conducted an official inspection and officiated at the presentation ceremony. Other visiting officers were Major R. S. Park, 0.C.. J.N.Z.A., Artillery Staff Officer, Major Bosworth, Major Garner, the Maori war veteran, Captain Bongard, N.Z.5.C.,. and Captain Eergusson, 3th Mn.nawatu Mounted Rifles. The idjutant, Lieut. J. P. Joyce, R.N.Z.A., vas also in attendance, with Lieut. T. M. Scott in charge of the parade, asdsted by Lieut. J. M. Tasker (Bth Battery) and Lieut. W. Moore (7th Battery). The Palmerston North Garrison Band vas present and rendered appropriate nisie.
In presenting the trophies, Lieut.Jolonel Fenton briefly addressed those in parade, congratulating them on .heir smart turnout. Under the existng order of things the units were .mall, he said, but lie was pleased to note that a high standard ot efficiency vas being maintained. He a.ppealed for regular attendance at parades and cook tn© opportunity of thanking those employers who had let their men off to attend parades and camps. “I hope,” he continued, “that you will never he called upon to put into serious effect the training you a.re now receiving, hut the state of .affairs overseas eloes not indicate that we are 100 per cent. sale. A sound military training is essential —we must be prepared in ease the worst should happen and we a.re called to arms." Colonel Fenton said lie could give no indication with reference to future policy in the realm of military training—there might he a change and there might not —but increased enthusiasm was necessary. He again congratulated the officers, n.c.o.’s and men and particularly the trophy winners. The awards were as follow. — 7th Battery.—Section Cup, Lieut. \V E Moore; Subsection Shield, B Q.M.S. D. S.
