MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Bit-LAW CASES. Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., presided over the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday. For having a chimney fire at his residence in Heretaunga Street, M. It. Nelson was fined 10s, with 10s costs. A penalty of 10s, with 10s costs, was imposed on It. V. Ballinger for parking a car over a fire-plug in Victoria Avenue.

B. G. Findlay, of Dannevirke, was fined 10s, with 13s costs, for. driving a car at night without the tail light illuminated.

G. W. McKenzie, a farmer, of Sanson, was fined £2, with 10s costs, for driving an unlicensed’ car. Defendant said that he came into Palmerston North on June 2 to get tho plates, but was informed that he would have to get them at Sanson. Meanwhile, he went to Bulls for benzine and was seen driving his car there. The Magistrate observed that, in any event, defendant had been two days too late in coming into Palmerston North. H. P. Thurston, of Tiakitahuna, was fined 10s, with 12s costs, for failure to possess a driver’s license, and 10s, with 10s costs, for not having a warrant of fitness for his motor-cycle. , For riding unlighted cycles at night, E. C. Levin, F. Petersen and A. Shaw were each fined 10s, with 10s costs; C. E. Vickery 10s, with I2s costs; and S. Rodgers £1 with 12s costs. It was stated that the last-named defendant was only recently before the Court on a similar charge. A penalty of £2, witli 10s costs, was imposed on J. Manning on a charge of failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Ferguson Street. H. F. Southee was fined £2, with 10s costs, on a charge of failing to stop after an accident, and 10s, with 10s costs, for not possessing a driver's license. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said defendant had had his car parked on the wrong side of the road round a corner between the Fitzherbert bridge and Massey College. He started it up and came diagonally across the road, being involved in a collision with a passing taxi, the side of which was damaged. Defendant did not stop, and made off at a fast speed, but the taxi-driver took the number of his car. Charged with operating a lorry carrying Bcwt in excess of the maximum it was licensed to carry, L. Little, of National Park, was fined £l, with 10s costs. . , , A penalty of £2, with" 10s costs, was imposed on W. Andrews for exceeding the speed limit in the Feilding borough. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre stated defendant passed over five intersections at 45 miles an hotu, Gilbert Fitt, stated to be £2oi in arrears on an order for the maintenance of his wife, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as he compile?, with the current order, and pays 10s weekly off the arrears. Charles Hore. a Maori labourer, charged with failure to comply with the terms of his release on probation at Wanganui, was remanded, on the application of Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre, for another waelc..
