WESTLAND FLOODS.

THOSE WHO ASSISTED. TIME OFF NOT ALLOWED. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, Dec. 7. The Minister for Public Works having advised, Mr Holland, M.P., that he was unable to pay for time-off of Public Works Department men who assisted in saving lives and properties during the recent flood, the union met to-night and passed the following resolution; —“That this meeting unanimously condemns the action of the Public Works Department in stopping the wages of those of its employees who lost time in endeavouring to save their own and other homes during the recent floods. We would strongly urge that in this connection the Public Works Department should, follow the example of the Marine Department, Borough Council, and County Council, none of whose employees were penalised by reason of their efforts to save life and property.”
