SERIES OF THEFTS.
YOUTH PLEADS GUILTY. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 7. Milton George Elliott (aged 19), a tramway apprentice, pleaded guilty before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day to having on different occasions between October 30 and November 30 stolen cigarettes and sums of money totalling £l3 3s, tho property of the Christchurch Tramways Social Club. He was remanded till Friday next for a report from the probation officer. Accused asked for bail.
Chief-Detective Gibson: Really this is breaking and entering. Ho stole each time. Elliott might be better for a few days on remand. It does them a world of good if there is any decency in them, and they don’t want any more. “Just as a matter of form,” said the Magistrate, “I will fix bail, but I hope he does not get it. I’ll fix it at a substantial sum. It would bo beter for you lad to bo in gaol, whepo the probation officer can see you.” Bail wa s accordingly allowed in accused’s own recognisance of £IOO and one surety of £IOO.
