PUBLICATIONS.
Recent publications to hand from Messrs Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., comprise copies of those popular magazines, “Best Story” and “Cassell’s,” also Weldon’s Journals and Weldon’s Bazaar of Children’s Fashions for November and December. Weldon’s Journal contains the usual free patterns to assist ladies in making up their own materials, and in the December issue there are notes by the editress on latest materials, evening styles, etc., Millicent’si dressmaking lesson, needlework, hok to make a tapestry bag, household hints, children’s page, etc. Messrs Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., also forward us, through Messrs G. H. Bennett and Co., Ltd., a copy of Cassell’s “Chums” for 1926-27. This is a book which proves a delight to every boy, particularly on account of the series of complete stories it contains.' The 1926-27 publication is quite as interesting as its predecessors, and is a very suitable present for the Christmas season. The same firm have also forwarded a copy of “Tiny Tots” and “80-Peep’s Bumper Book,” each of which contains suitable stories and pictures for little people, “The Methods of Mendoza,” by William Caine, a copy of which we have received for review from Angus and Robertson, Ltd., (Sydney), is a fascinating work of fiction with a picturesque Spanish background. It is complementary to “Mendoza and a Little Lady,” and tells how Luiz escaped being apprenticed to a draper in Seville, then tracing his early struggles in Madrid, and making good in Paris and London. Mr Caine has infused a wealth of colourful detail into his entertaining narrative.
