KING’S ORDER

HEADSTONE OVER ARTILLERYMAN’S GRAVE. LONDON, Nov. 29. Following a father’s appeal to the King, the Imperial War Graves Commission has placed a headstone over the grave of Gunner Elsey, an artilleryman, who lost an eye in the war, after which he was court-martial Lea for striking a military policeman, being sentenced to 112 days’ imprisonment. Elsey, while handcuffed, fell down some steps, and injured his leg. He was operated on, but died. His father alleged that he was pushed down, but the court declared that the iajury was accidental. Mr Elsey appealed to the King to clear his son’s name, and also returned his son’s and his own medals. He has now written to the King, thanking him for the headstone.
