FOXTON NOTES
[From Our Own Correspondent.] The annual Fire Brigade ball was held in the Town Hall- last night and-was a great success. The hall was nicely decorated with streamers and coloured electric lights, with a large coloured flood-light in each corner. The fire engine was placed on exhibition in the alley-way between the hall and the supper-room. The floor was in excellent order and a very enjoyable time was spent by all. Visitors were present from all parts of the district,' including representatives of the various brigades from neighbouring towns. On Saturday members of the local Bowling Club journeyed to Levin, where they spent an enjoyable afternoon on the green. They were not successful in play, however. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was presided over by Mr F. Woods (chairman). Mr Hornblow stated that the Education Board had unanimously agreed to recommend to the department that the building to accommodate the secondary and technical classes bo erected in brick. A resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the board’s action and requesting that the building bo completed as early as possible in the New Year. The visiting committee reported that everything was satisfactory at both the central and the side school. It was decided that the next meeting be held in February and that the chairman and secretary be empowered to attend to any matter arising in the meantime. The season's greetings were conveyed to members by the chairman and the good wishes were reciprocated. A vote of sympathy was passed to the widow and family of the late Mr W. Signal and special reference was made to his services as an ex-member of the committee by the chairman and Messrs Hornblow and Perreau.
