ASSOCIATION CODE.

OPENING OF THE SEASON. The opening matches for the 1925 season under the Soccer code were decided on Saturday under favourable conditions. A fair number of enthusiasts attended at North Street Park, when they were rewarded by witnessing some good displays, although the condition of the playing area did not aid to that end. The first senior game, between Rangers and St. Andrew’s, was a well-contested encounter, despite the fact that both sides were somewhat out of form. Both teams played well, Rangers having the advantage in the first spell. Faulty snooting towards the end of the game lost St. Andrew’s many chances and Rangers maintained their lead and won by 4 goals to 3. Kicking off against the wind St. Andrew’s (blue) attacked vigorously, but the ball went out near Rangers’ (white) back line. Shortly afterwards blues secured a comer, but whites cleared and taking the offensive forced play to their opponents’ territory, where after a melee Bowler scored.—Rangers 1, St. Andrew’s 0. The next few minutes’ play was of the open order, neither side having the advantage, although a vigorous attack by whites narrowly failed. Whites then pressed hard and the ball was kept in the vicinity of their opponents’ goal, where one good attempt failed, the ball striking the post and rebounding into play, but Dorr immediately shot, beating the goalie.—Rangers 2, St. Andrew’s 0. Blues rallied considerably and attacked strongly, but were penalised and whites again took the offensivo and rolled the defenders back, Dorr again scoring.— —Rangers 3, St. Andrew’s 0. „ In the second spell blues, with the wind' behind them, speedily moved irito white territory where a clever exhibition ef foojj work was given. Whites cleared but the blues were not to be dehied ond a passing rush culminated in Hart opening their score slieet.—Rangers 3, St. Andrew’s 1. Shortly afterwards blues again made things dangerous for their opponents and seoured a corner. Smillie took the kick and frotn the corner managed to score a goal.—Rangers 3, St. Andrew’s 2. A right wing movement by whites took play to tho other end of tho field And Millflr odded another point to their score.—Rangers 4, St. Andrew’s 2. Blues maintained a strong offensive and should .have scored on several occasions, but poor shooting spoiled their efforts. Towards the end of the game, however, D. Bell secured possession of the ball and made no mistake with the kick.—Rangers 4, St. Andrew’s 3. Blues were attacking when timo was sounded. Mr J. Forbes refereedR.S.A. 8, FOXTON 0. The R.S.A.
