VISITORS FLEECED.
“TIPS AND TAXES.” April 17. “Australian and New Zealand visitors should avoid France and Italy if they object to being fleeced in hotels and restaurants,- ’ said Mr A. Cropper, and ex-Mayor of Petersham, Sydney. Mr Cropper said that he had met many Australians in these countries who were “sore” after having had to pay tips as well as special tourist taxes. Hotel staffs, he said, swarmed round departing guests, demanding tips on the scale followed by lavish American tourists.
